I am an improviser, coach and facilitator. In 2010, I started teaching improvisation workshops while studying at the London School of Economics (LSE).
Since 2013, I have been working with Paul Z Jackson as part of Paul Jackson Associates, The Improvisation Academy and the Applied Improvisation Network. On my way to becoming an organisational coach, I currently work for The Solutions Focus and have so far trained with Guy Shennan Associates. My further interests are Goal Achievement, Psychology, Mindfulness, dancing and Tai Chi. |
Yes, and
|
|
What is it?
"Yes, and" is a phrase used in Theatre Improvisation, meaning 'accept and build'. This refers to accepting the status quo and other people's ideas and then building on them by adding another idea. In improvisation this happens without a script and is the basis for all creation.
Actually we improvise most conversations in life and the concept of "yes and", as well as other improvisational practices and skills are very useful for communication. Why is it useful?
Improvisation is taught using a wide range of activities that develop the skills, instincts and confidence needed to be able to listen and respond clearly, even when you don’t know what you are about to do or say.
It is based on interaction with the environment and the people in it, helps foster trust, teamwork, creativity and joy. Applied Improvisation uses these skills and activities for the learning gained by practicing them and then making connections with real life situations. |

Applied Improvisation
In 2012, I started collaborating with the LSE Language Centre to offer English through Improv workshops to non native English speakers at the University. Together with Steve Bond, I design and teach the single sessions as well as the 7 week course. You can read the case study here.
In summer 2013, I started working with Paul Z Jackson at Paul Jackson Associates and The Improvisation Academy and am now one of the associates and teachers.
Theatre ImprovSo far,I have trained improvisation with Keith Johnstone, Alan Marriott, and teachers from the Second City, UCB, CRUMBS, The Showstoppers, The Maydays, Hoopla, and the AIN.
From 2010 - 2014 I organised, directed and taught the LSESU Drama Society Improv Group, which is a mixture of beginners and intermediate performers.
Five Seven Plus are a comedy improv group who enjoy slow burning long scenes with rich character work. Much like an improv stew, the longer it's left cooking, the more intense the flavour gets. One audience member has described the show to be "like Lost meets the Simpsons."
